We only had 17 players this month due to prior commitments and many cancellations, but we still had a fabulous day on a gorgeous golf course. Lake Jovita's South Course was in impeccable shape, even though the greens appeared to have been punched a couple weeks earlier.
The theme this month was Monster Mash, and we encouraged players to wear ugly golf outfits or some type of costume. Not many participated in the fun, but there were two that stood out from the crowd. Ken Cabrera was the star of Revenge of the Nerds, complete with glasses being held together by tape. "Trick" Rick Rhodes went above and beyond, showing up in a wig and mustache, along with a Gardner Minshew t-shirt over his golf shirt, and tried to hit his golf ball over the mountains. Rick won a gift certificate kindly donated by Gaspar Golfer Bill Bishop, owner of the Honey Baked Ham store in Tampa.
Now, onto the golf. There was one newer Gaspar golfer who brought his A-game, playing with Frank Perez and Frank Guistiani, no slouches themselves. It was Dave Tomello who outplayed everyone, scoring 6-1/2 points over his Points Quota while shooting an 86. He blasted long drives, and holed out twice from off the green for birdies, winning 2 skins. Tres, Jeremy and Tony were chanting his name from across the fairway as he holed out for the second time from the bunker. Dave won 50% of the pot, an official Gaspar Golf t-shirt, and is the proud owner of the Jose Gaspar trophy until November's tournament.
Second place, winning the Skallywag honors, was long time Gaspar Pirate, Todd "Big Country" Broadbent, who exceeded his Quota by 4 points. Last place, and the Wench trophy, went to Peter Alfonso, who missed his Quota by 6-1/2 points.
We had some drawings for prizes in the clubhouse, with Frank Perez winning a free twosome to come back and play Lake Jovita, and Frank Guistiani winning a free twosome to play Broadmoor, the site of last month's Gaspar Invitational. We gave away a sleeve of balls, and everyone got a poker chip ball marker.

We forgot to pick up the Closest to the Pin markers, so one of our new players was kind enough to go grab them. We somehow misplaced the fourth marker, and Frank Perez believes he won it. Without visual evidence, we could not let him have it, and divided the prize money between the three winners.
Next month we are at the private country club, Bayou Club. It's next door to Bardmoor, which we played in September. Hope to get a large group next month!
