After trying to secure a tournament at Lakewood National Golf Club for the past 2-3 years, the dynamic duo of Joey Vitello and Carolyn Card, members of the club, and homeowners on the #1 hole, were able to convince the powers that be that this group of Pirates would not ransack the club, laying waste to everyone and everything in sight. While we had a bit different format, with us having 12 tee times instead of a shotgun start, and no after golf party to announce the winners and do a prize drawing. However, the incredible golf conditions and perfect weather were on our side.
If you've never played golf with "Cardi-C," you might not know what kind of player she is. I've seen it up close. A gorgeous swing, and can hit any shot. She hits her driver as far as most men in our group. She outdrives many. It was only a matter of time, as I've been saying. Like Caporale playing from the forward men's tees, Carolyn overpowers the golf course from the red tees. And on this beautiful day on a beautiful Piper Course, she overpowered everyone in the field, shooting an even par 72, and finishing at +9, besting the 2nd place finisher by 3-1/2 points. She had already won one of the top prizes in the pre-tournament prize drawing, a bottle of Grey Goose vodka, and also had won the grand prize in capturing Joey "Butterhands" Vitello's heart. We normally call our monthly champion Jose Gaspar. Is she Josephine? Carolyn took home $296 in prize money as well. Great job by our Cardi-C!
Always near the top, one half of the Bushwhackers, Donald Jensen shot an impressive 81, and finished at +5.5 points over his 22 Quota. This Pirate enforcer will definitely win soon. It's only a matter of time, and same for his brother and other half of the famed wrestling duo, Clyde "Glide" Jensen. Donald's cash prize was $98, only a dollar shy of covering his entire tournament cost. He also claims the title of Skallywag for the month of October.
3rd place, and always a threat to win, went to Jason Harmon, our resident former wide receiver of the Jax Jaguars. Jason shot a routine 78, and finished at +5, just a half point back of Jensen. This month's Deckhand receives $33, plus he won a Skin for another $14, for a total of $47.
James Howard and Fabian Zamora tied for last place, and James "won" the title of Wench for October on a scorecard comparison, making a triple bogey on hole #18, the easiest hole on the course. Fabian made bogey. I deserve partial Wench for 3-putting #18 from about 20' to make bogey after hitting my 3-hybrid to about 75 yards in front of the green, and pitching on.
We had an unusually high number of skins won in each Flight, thus the lower payout per skin. Here are the results of the Skins and Closest to the Pins.
