In a battle against the elements, the "Big Pole," Bill Kilichowski, won for the second time in 2 seasons, with a +2 finish, edging out Arnie "Nature Boy" Rutkis, who was the only player in the field who beat the course and conditions. Bill was able to grind out a 96, and an 18 point finish, to take home the top prize of $176 and title of Jose Gaspar in Tampa's Gasparilla month.
Arnie made mince meat of the famed El Campeon course at Mission Inn, firing a solid 82 and a +1.5 finish, becoming the Skallywag of the month for 2nd place. His 4 birdies on the day, and 3 Skins, were pretty special in such tough conditions. He took home a total of $118 in prize money.
We had a tie for 3rd place between last Season's winner on El Campeon, Jans Tamayo, and Ken Bryant. Ken came out on top by carding a bogey on the hardest handicap hole, breaking the tie. Ken shot 91, and missed his quota by -0.5. He earned a total of $40 in prize money due to his 3rd place finish and one Skin.
All in all, we had 2 players who finished above their Quota, making Bill's performance even more incredible. A self-described "average golfer" who shoots in the mid-90's most days on the course, he braved the elements, and did what he had to do to win his 2nd title.
Next month, we are at Skyview for our Pirate Invasion tournament. Hopefully, we'll get some milder weather, and much bigger turnout! Don't forget our weekend league, the Black Skull Golf League, which plays every weekend we do not have a Gaspar Invitational Tournament. This Sunday, we are at Citrus National, the former Southern Woods. Our Monday Night Pirate Golf League starts on March 11 at Westchase.
