We had quite a nice turnout at The Eagles Golf Club on a breezy and mild "winter" morn, as we played the first Gaspar Invitational of 2020.  We played the Forest Course, a pretty 18 hole track that has plenty of wildlife to see as you play golf.  Our players say turkeys, hawks, deer and gators, including one dinosaur that was probably 12+ feet, fat and sassy.  Former Eagles resident and current Gaspar golfer, Gordon Brooks, got within 10' of the "Beast," all to take a photo.  I wondered how I would tell his wife, Mandy, that Gordon was eaten by his favorite animal.

31 people played (we had one last minute cancel due to illness), and 1 came out on top.  Englishman Neal Scott played a great round, exceeding his Points Quota by 4 to take home the Jose Gaspar trophy and $201 in cold, hard cash.  Interestingly enough, another Englishman took home the dreaded Wench trophy for the worst golfer of the day.  Jimmy Nichols was a great sport about it, and vows to turn his game around and win soon.  Second place and the title of Skallywag went to John Allen, who shot a sweet 77.  3rd place was the aforementioned Gordon Brooks, safe from the belly of the Beast.

We did not have a tremendous amount of birdies made in the tournament.  Brian Bartley had a pair, and his playing mate and new Gaspar golfer, Jason Forbes, made a birdie, all cut by other birdies on the same holes.  Mike Caporale complained about a "horrible" round, and had 2 birdies on par 4 holes that stuck, allowing him to take home a nice amount of money.

We are working on the February Gaspar Invitational as we speak.  While it might be tough to play some of the nicer courses in our area from now until April, we will do our best to put on a fun event for everyone.
